André Stephany
Theologian, ordained Minister
André (pronouns: he/him/his) is of German origin and was born in the Black Forest in 1989. After he spent most of his teenage years dreaming of and working for a political career, he discovered the church as a place of community and spiritual growth. He became a member of Parish Council in the German Protestant parish in his home town and graduated from school. From early on, he got to know the Anglican Church and grew spiritually with one leg in the Protestant Church and one in the Anglican Church.
His university career brought him around the world. First studying History and English, he later took on theology as his main subject and prepared for training for ministry. His academic education led him to Konstanz and Freiburg (Germany), Durham (UK), Basel (Switzerland), Jerusalem where he studied two semesters at Dormition Abbey (a German Benedictine Monastery on Mt. Sion) and served at St. George’s Anglican Cathedral and to Westcott House, Cambridge (UK).
He served as Curate at Basel Cathedral and was ordained into the Swiss Reformed Church before a call brought him to the Diocese of New Westminster, where he was ordained Deacon and Priest at Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver. André served his Anglican Curacy at Christ Church Cathedral before serving as Rector of St. Clement Anglican Church, North Vancouver, in the Diocese of New Westminster. Naturally, the ecumenical dialogue is a passion of his.
Currently, André works as doctoral student and assistant at Bern University.
